Smart Sanitation Solutions
Updated: Aug 7, 2020
Better management of littering in parks and illegal dumping is urgently required.

In council, I will be reviewing the feasibility of deploying across our parks smart, sensor-equipped waste & recycling stations that communicate real-time status to collection crews to enable efficiencies.
Studies shows smart bins:
Reduce collections by 70-80% on average and subsequent decreased liner usage, labor hours, vehicle wear, and fuel consumption
Transform cleanliness & aesthetics by keeping waste contained – eliminate visible waste, windblown litter, overflows, and critter access
Reduce carbon footprint and CO2 emissions with fewer truck rolls, fuel consumption, and air pollution when meaningfully deployed
In comparison to other councils with similar population size and growth rate, Wyndham reports the highest missed kerbside collection per 10,000 household
Missed Kerbside Collection - Wyndham Highest.
In comparison to other councils with similar population size and growth rate, Wyndham reports the highest missed kerbside collection per 10,000 household
Wyndham - 4.26%
Whittlesea City - 3.77%
Mornington Peninsula - 3.54%
Casey City - 3.65%
Wyndham's report at 4.26% means over 11,000 households in our city will have to hold their wastes longer.
Missed kerbside collections results in illegal dumping

In council I will work with council staff to identify lapses in our kerbside collection from contractor side and promote waste disposal education to new residents.
